Ok, so I'm not sure how many of you (if any) saw Luke Flannery's blog last week, where he listed his 'Top 5 Divas'? But he's started a trend and now each week we will list a Top 5 of something. This week its our favourite sporting moments. Our only condition is that we don't include any WWE matches, which I'm sure some of you will argue aren't really 'sport' anyway.
As a connoisseur of sports, I find this an incredibly hard task. There are not many sports that I don't like. I am almost dangerously committed to watching the Olympics and Commonwealth Games when they are on. And World Cups? Forget about it.
So I had to think. Are these moments that involve my favourite teams and athletes exclusively. Or do I make it broader and include anything at all, and be all cliche like 'the moment that Australia got the Olympics'? And my decision is a selfish one. These 5 moments are solely ones that I love.
So without further ado, lets get cracking in ascending order. That means counting up.
No.5 - Andrew Bogut, NBA Draft, No.1 Pick
This comes in as No.5 due to the fact that I lived and breathed basketball for so long, and I know how hard it was for Andrew to get here. His talent, sacrifices and hard work made this an incredible achievement. And it was phenomenal for Australian basketball to start getting the recognition it deserved. This was the first time I ever watched the NBA Draft live as well. Awesome.
No.4 - Michael Jordan's comeback in 1995
The best player EVER came back. 'Nuff said.
No. 3 - Cattledog
State of Origin Rugby League. It does not get tougher. And thanks to Tommy Raudonikis it got a whole lot more exciting in 1997.
No.2 - Liverpool wins Champions League
Great to get such a big trophy!
No.1 - Miami's NBA Championship
I have been a fan of Miami almost as long as I can remember. I took the week off to be able to watch the games live on ESPN. It was so awesome. And as neither Liverpool, Minnesota or Cronulla have won a title in my lifetime it was a feeling I'd never experienced before. Just plain AWESOME!
So there you have it. My top 5 sporting moments.
Number 3 is just to piss me off isn't it?
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping to post mine a bit later tonight. Picking just 5 is harder than I thought.
I had no idea you were such a big Liverpool fan. If I knew anything about soccer I'd use that to rip you off.
Here's mine http://bit.ly/fdQ99g
ReplyDeleteShockingly one of our moments is the same!
Wow. I nearly went for the 97 Origin series, too (that was the year that Fatty coached, yeah?)
